Codes of Practice 
The information/advice given in this guide is based on the British Standard BS 5385 parts 1 to 5

- the code of practice for wall and floor tiling: 

  • Part 1:2009. Design and installation of ceramic, natural stone and mosaic wall tiling in normal internal conditions - Code of practice
  • Part 2:2006. Design and installation of external ceramic wall tiling and mosaics wall tiling in normal conditions -  Code of practice
  • Part 3:2007. Design and installation of internal and external ceramic and mosaic floor tiling in normal conditions. - Code of practice
  • Part 4:2009. Design and installation of ceramic and mosaic tiling in special conditions - Code of practice
  • Part 5:2009. Design and installation of terrazzo, natural stone and agglomerated stone tile and slab flooring - Code of practice

Other relevant standards include:

  • BS 8000:Workmanship on building sites. In particular: - Part 2:1990 - Code of practice for concrete work. Part 3:2001 - Code of practice for masonry. Part 8: 1994 - Code of practice for plasterboard partitions and dry lining. Part 9:2003 - Code of practice for cementitious levelling screeds & wearing screeds. Part 10:1995 - Code of practice for plastering and rendering.  BS 8000-11:2011 Workmanship on building sites. Internal and external wall and floor tiling. Ceramic and agglomerated stone tiles, natural stone and terrazzo tiles and slabs, and mosaics. Code of practice
  • BS 8203:2001 +A1: 2009; Installation of resilient floor coverings.
  • BS 8204 Screed, bases and insitu flooring  :Part 1:2002 + A1: 2009 Concrete bases & cementitious levelling screeds to receive floorings and 2:2003 + A1:2009 -   Concrete bases  insitu floorings.
